Historic Images

Our editorial team takes a unique look at Stratford-upon-Avon, it's church and the life of Shakespeare with original early 19th Century images & photographs never before seen on the internet!

Shakespeare's Birthplace

Our research has revealed two extraordinary photographs. The first was taken prior to extensive restoration commencing in 1847 at which time the 'Shakespeare Birthplace Committee' obtained the famous house and, with the financial and popular support of the public, transformed it to its current form (as shown in the second photograph which was taken in October 1860). The extensive modifications and improvements undertaken to the property can clearly be seen.

'Before' & 'After'

These exclusive early photographs clearly show how the famous 'birthplace' looked before and after its restoration!
